Commie fag Bob Brown says we're in a recession

Greens leader Bob Brown suggests Australia is in a recession

http://www.news.com.au/business/story/0,27753,25155768-462,00.html

AUSTRALIAN Greens leader Bob Brown has waded into territory the prime minister
refused to go near last week by saying Australia has to assume it’s in recession.

Under questioning on Network Ten, Senator Brown was initially reluctant to use
the word, instead saying the economy was "in reverse".

But then he said what Kevin Rudd managed to avoid saying last week.

"Australia has to deal with itself as if it’s in a recession," the Tasmanian
senator said.

"We would be very unwise not to assume that we are in a recession.

"The fact is the economy is contracting, we’re seeing thousands of jobs being lost."

Data out last week showed the economy recorded its first quarter of negative
growth in eight years, raising speculation the March quarter could be just as bad.

A technical recession is defined as two consecutive quarters of negative growth.

Under repeated questioning on Friday, Mr Rudd refused to say whether the economy
was heading into recession or was already in one.

Instead, he said Australia was in a "cyclone".

Foulmouthed KRudd slips up over financial crisis

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,27574,25157062-29277,00.html

KEVIN Rudd isn’t known for his "colourful" language like predecessors Mark
Latham and Paul Keating but the global economic crisis seems to be enough to
cause a slip of the tongue in even a mild-mannered leader.

The prime minister made the slip when explaining that current circumstances made
it necessary to borrow to keep the wheels of the economy turning, but that
created a political "shit storm".

Mr Rudd told Channel Seven it was necessary to keep building long-term economic
infrastructure even in the down times to keep the foundation for jobs in place.

But he noted it meant that opponents would then complain about governments going
into debt.

"There’s a very simple alternative here: you either sit back as government and
do nothing and just wait for the free market to fix it all up or you step in and
try to fill the breach for a temporary period," Mr Rudd said.

"People have to understand that, because there’s going to be the usual political
shit storm," he said, before quickly correcting himself.

"Sorry, political storm over that."

KRudd's nation of bludgers

Employees wary, unmotivated after sackings

http://www.smh.com.au/national/employees-wary-unmotivated-after-sacki…

STAFF motivation in Australian workplaces is at rock bottom as the wave of
redundancies continues across the corporate world, a study reveals.

The survey of 6300 workers by the international personnel consultancy, Drake,
finds 40 per cent of employees are substantially less motivated after deep
cutbacks in their workplaces.

The gloom settling over many businesses is also affecting productivity. It was
either stagnant or fell in 80 per cent of workplaces where mass redundancies had
taken place.

Over the past six months, the banking, finance and consultancy sectors have lost
tens of thousands of jobs as the international economy heads deeper into
recession. The once glittering world of merchant banking, hedge fund management
and stockbroking are bearing the brunt of losses.

Since June, Macquarie Bank has lost 1200 jobs; Babcock & Brown, 1000; GE Money,
735; IAG, 600; Suncorp, 347; National Australia Bank, 307; AMP, 210;
PricewaterhouseCoopers, 200; and KPMG 100.

"Staff motivation and productivity are clearly related," one of the study’s
authors, David Edwards, told the Herald.

He said that contrary to popular belief among some managers, the surviving staff
who work with the threat of redundancy hanging over them tend to become
disheartened rather than spurred on to work harder. Companies experience higher
levels of absenteeism and sick leave.

"You also get the phenomenon of ‘presentee-ism’, where people turn up to work
but lack focus because they often see little future with the company."

In a twist, the study found that after mass sackings, almost half of all
employers were forced to rehire permanent or temporary staff to fill jobs lost
in the downsizing.

Let Them Eat Carbon Credits !!!

Typical greenie hypocrisy!

Fake Green Power Generated

March 4 2009

KRudd’s target of 20 per cent renewable energy by 2020 is patently absurd,
requiring the equivalent of building a new wind tower every 400 metres from
Perth to Sydney, at the rate of two a day.

Given that, it’s no wonder KRudd is resorting to tricks to inch closer to
his target – and the green activists are onto him:

From mid-year, households installing solar panels will receive "phantom"
credits worth five times the amount of energy generated at home.

If cashed in, the phantom certificates – those issued for energy that has
not been generated – will be counted towards the Federal Government’s
renewable energy target of 20 per cent of power coming from green sources by
2020..

But a Moreland Energy Foundation analysis found the phantom certificates …
found that by 2020 the 20 per cent target would in real terms equate to only
17 per cent of the nation’s energy coming from green sources.

Europe's Great Green Con

March 4 2009

Peter Costello nails Europe’s great green con:

Obama pledged. to introduce a federal cap and trade scheme (an ETS) with
annual targets to "reduce emissions to their 1990 levels by 2020". Another
way of explaining that target is to say that by 2020 the US aims to make no
reduction in the levels of emission measured against 1990.

Australia is pledging to cut 5 to 15 per cent depending on what happens in
the rest of the world. Europe on the other hand is pledging a 20 per cent
cut from 1990 levels.

Have you ever wondered why 1990 is the base year for measuring emission
reductions?

It sounds unlikely, but that’s the year communism collapsed.

When communism collapsed, all those state-owned steel mills and other
inefficient heavy manufacturing plants that were never economical were
closed down in the former communist states of eastern Europe.

By choosing 1990 as the base year, Europe counts the emission reduction from
closing all those factories.

The fall of communism delivered an enormous environmental yield.

Or put it this way: the rest of the developed world is being punished by
Europe for not having fallen under communist rule.

And Costello is not backing down on nuclear power:

When Australia’s environmental movement allows itself to admit this is an
option we will know that they are really serious about reducing greenhouse
emissions.

UPDATE

Europe’s con graphically illustrated.

Lies The IPCC Will Tell You

Klaus Rohrich

February 4 2009

QUOTE: So the real reason behind the global warming hysteria is and always
has been, about the redistribution of wealth.

QUOTE: If the planet really were in the throes of cataclysmic crises, as the
climate change hysterics claim, then reducing carbon emissions, all carbon
emissions, would be the key, regardless of whether the "polluter" is a
developed or developing nation.

QUOTE: In fact, severe winters have been a trend in Europe for the past
decade, yet somehow this fact seems to be lost on those who insist that
we’re
all going to die because of climate change.

QUOTE: Yet the morons at the head of this debate are attempting to convince
the gullible and ovine populace that the key building block on which 99% of
all earth’s life is based is toxic.

The recent announcement by the IPCC, the UN body charged with whipping up
global hysteria over climate change, that "developing countries" would be
exempt from emission cuts is proof that the idea of catastrophic climate
change is a total scam that’s much more focused on improving economic
conditions in the Third World than on combating climate change.

The reasoning behind such a conclusion should be obvious, given that if the
earth’s climate truly were on the verge of a total and catastrophic
collapse, then no one would really care about whether or not developing
countries should be exempted from carbon emissions.

The Copenhagen Climate Conference of 2009 is promising to issue some of the
strictest regulations yet regarding carbon emissions that would have
developed nations basically shutting down their economies while waiting for
the economies of developing nations, which will be able to continue spewing
carbon into the atmosphere at will, to catch up.

Redistribution of Wealth

So the real reason behind the global warming hysteria is and always has
been, about the redistribution of wealth.

If the planet really were in the throes of cataclysmic crises, as the
climate change hysterics claim, then reducing carbon emissions, all carbon
emissions, would be the key, regardless of whether the "polluter" is a
developed or developing nation.

As it stands, these so-called strict emission controls that the IPCC is
promising are aimed primarily at wealthy nations, while those less wealthy
would get a free pass.

One would think that individuals who have bought into the global
warming/climate change scam would take the time to look out their windows,
rather than swallow the climate change garbage trickling into their homes
through the media.

Global warming stopped abruptly some 10 years ago and a new cooling trend
has taken hold.  Those in rampant denial need merely to look at the streets
of London and Madrid where this week 30 cm of snow and ice are wreaking
havoc with people’s lives.

In fact, severe winters have been a trend in Europe for the past decade, yet
somehow this fact seems to be lost on those who insist that we’re all going
to die because of climate change.

Height of ignorance

The very idea of vilifying a substance like carbon and calling it a
"pollutant" is the height of ignorance, given that most life on earth is,
how shall I put it, carbon-based.

There are four elements, carbon, oxygen, hydrogen and nitrogen that make
life on earth possible.  Without these, no life.  Yet the morons at the head
of this debate are attempting to convince the gullible and ovine populace
that the key building block on which 99% of all earth’s life is based is
toxic.

A belief in catastrophic climate change is one of the orthodoxies of
liberalism, along with many other, equally silly beliefs.  As our own Dr.
Tim Ball pointed out in these pages earlier, plant life, which produces
oxygen, another necessary element for animal life to survive, does so by
consuming carbon and exuding oxygen, which we then breathe.  So the whackos
that want to outlaw carbon emissions could end up destroying all life on
earth as one of their unintended consequences.

But don’t take my word for it.

Listen to what the climate change lobby appears to be saying.  Carbon
emissions from developed nations are harmful, while those from developing
nations aren’t.

Does that make any sense?

Or is this a case of the rumors of earth’s imminent demise being greatly
exaggerated?

Economy shrinks 0.5pc in December

Australian gross domestic product falls 0.5pc in December quarter

http://www.news.com.au/business/story/0,27753,25137353-31037,00.html

THE Australian economy went into retreat in the final three months of 2008, as
the negative impact of the global downturn hit.

The national accounts released showed gross domestic product dropped 0.5 per
cent in the December quarter – the first negative result in eight years.

Over the year to December, GDP rose 0.3 per cent.

The September quarter GDP result was unrevised at 0.1 per cent, meaning the
economy has so far avoided a "technical" recession.

A "technical" recession is defined by two consecutive quarters of contraction.

Economists had expected a small positive GDP result for the quarter, supported
by strong retail spending, construction work, capital expenditure and weak
imports, and offsetting a slump in company profits and business inventories.

Equally, they saw the risk of the first negative quarter in eight years.

Earlier this morning, RBA assistant governor of economics Malcolm Edey told a
business forum that Australia would see some significant short-term weakness,
due to a sudden deterioration in global conditions in the final three months of
calendar 2008.

The Reserve Bank left the cash rate unchanged yesterday after its monthly board
meeting at a 45 year low of 3.25 per cent.

This Hysteria Will Pass

February 28 2009

From an interview with brilliant young Israeli physicist Nir Shaviv:

In what state do you expect the struggle over global warming to be a decade
or more from now?

"This struggle will fade away.

In the past, we were afraid of the Y2K bug that was going to paralyze the
world, we were afraid of the tail gases of a comet that was supposed to
strike the earth – none of this happened.

In the last 10 years, the earth’s temperature has not risen.

Over the last century, it has risen 0.75 degrees.

Less than a degree.

My guess is that even if we double the amount of carbon dioxide by 2100, the
temperature will only rise by one degree, and we needn’t be afraid of that."
